Fatigue assessment of steel riveted railway bridges: Full-scale tests and analytical approach

چکیده
This paper describes a double experimental and analytical study of the fatigue behaviour Quisi Ferrandet Bridges, twin 170 m long steel railway bridges constructed between 1913 1915 with typical Pratt truss structures riveted connections. These are part Spanish national network connecting towns Alicante Denia, one key networks in Valencia Region (Spain). The laboratory investigation involved testing ICITECH laboratories at Universitat Politècnica de València of: (i) full-scale bridge span (ii) an upper cross beam from Bridge. During tests, Linear Variable Displacement Transducers (LVDTs) Strain Gauge (SG) sensors were used to capture possible nucleation propagation cracks. Fatigue test carried out on identified: life critical detail, hot-spots along (iii) strain redistribution element during crack growth. results adopted calibrate elastic numerical model whole structure, which was turn estimate Bridge's remaining life. definition class detail calculated by S–N curves method, according Eurocode 3, considering available information bridges' loading histories.

Probabilistic fatigue load spectra for riveted railway bridges
This paper presents a probabilistic load model for fatigue assessment of old metallic railway bridges. The traffic basis of the model consists of trains obtained from past records and present-day trains obtained from codes. The traffic is divided into four distinct time periods each associated with particular characteristics in rail traffic. Traffic evolution scenarios for the future, in terms ...
متن کاملProbabilistic fatigue life estimates for riveted railway bridges
A large percentage of the railway bridges in the UK rail network and around Europe are of riveted construction exceeding in many cases 100 years of age. The remaining fatigue life of these bridges is difficult to estimate due to the uncertainties regarding the fatigue behaviour of wrought-iron and older steel material, which was used for their construction, as well as the actual loading and the...
متن کاملSystem effects on the fatigue reliability of deteriorating riveted railway bridges
This paper presents a system-based model for the fatigue assessment of old, deteriorating riveted railway bridge connections, which are built up of a number of basic components. A finite element model of a typical, short-span railway bridge is used to convert train loading into probabilistic fatigue load spectra via Monte Carlo train simulations. Uncertainties in terms of loading, resistance an...
متن کاملFatigue system reliability analysis of riveted railway bridge connections
A system-based model for fatigue assessment of riveted railway bridge connections, comprising a number of basic components, is presented in this paper. Probabilistic fatigue load spectra are developed through Monte Carlo simulation of train passages over a finite element model of a typical, short-span bridge. Uncertainties arising from loading, resistance and modelling sources are taken into ac...
متن کاملComparison of Design Standards for Steel Railway Bridges
The popularity of steel bridges is increasing in the modern era because of its unmatchable advantages. Engineers are using various national codes to achieve an optimum design. Some of the Asian countries are using their own codes and also American and other country code provisions to achieve better economy and better standards. In this regard the comparison of design codes is relevant. Comparis...
